Paullina, Iowa
Rodney Carlson, 84, of Paullina, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at his residence. A private family service will be held at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home.
Visitation with family present will be from 11 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
RODNEY CARLSON
Rodney Carlson, the son of Francis and Luetta (Meyer) Carlson was born on December 31, 1941, in Primghar, Iowa. Rod graduated from Paullina High School in 1960, while in high school he played football and lettered all four years and was also the co-captain. On August 27, 1960, he was united in marriage to Kaye Miller. Rod farmed and also worked for Straub’s, combining and shelling corn. He also custom fed hogs, and cattle. In his later years, he chopped cement for Chad Dau and delivered papers for the Sioux City Journal for many years.
Rod enjoyed golfing, bowling, fast and slow pitch softball, go cart racing, snowmobiling, four wheeling. Most importantly he enjoyed being with his family, going to many children’s events and grandchildren’s events.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Kaye; their children, Steve (Kim) Carlson, Mike (Tracey) Carlson, Ryan (LaShara) Carlson; daughter-in-law, Lori McGuire; grandchildren, Jenni (Ryan) Toomer, Amy (Gerad) Patton, Matt Wise, Ashley (Andy) Woolard, Amanda (Andrew) Nees, Allisa (Brett) Friedrichsen, Ryan McGuire, Kevin McGuire, Jacob (Sophia) Carlson, Jacqueline (Yves) Sandwidi, Jace Carlson, Kasanei, Toriseo, and Gabriel Calrson; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Linda (Larry) Poppema; also other relatives and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Luetta Carlson, daughter, Robin, son, Mark, cousin, Carol Ommen, and his faithful dog Chewy. Rod was also preceded by his mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Catherine Miller, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sholly, Carolyn Manna, and Janice Sage, brother-in-law, Larry Miller.
