Services for Rose M. Rodger 91 of Sheldon who passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Services will be 10 A.M. Monday, August 10, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. Father Siby Punnoose will officiate with burial to follow at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday with a Parish Rosary at 4 P.M. Sunday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

ROSE MARY RODGER

Rose Mary Rodger, daughter of John and Eleanor (Ludwig) Nilles, was born on October 2, 1934 on a farm near LeMars, Iowa.

Rose was raised on farms near LeMars, Remsen and Ashton, IA. She graduated from St Joseph Parochial High School, Ashton, IA in 1952. Rose and William were united in marriage on June 22, 1955 in Sheldon, IA.

Rose was employed at Rexall Drug Store. She was employed in the catalog department at JC Penney for a number of years. Rose operated two cafes, one in Boyden and the other in Sheldon. Rose also cleaned houses with a group of women who became lifelong friends. She taught CCD classes at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Rose was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, Eagles, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Rose passed away on August 2, 2026 at the age of 91.

Rose enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She belonged to card clubs and enjoyed her friendship with the women.

Rose is survived by her children Kathleen Redinius (Sioux Falls, SD); Dennis (Cheryl) Rodger (Storm Lake, IA) and their children Jennifer (Aurora, CO), Michael (Minneapolis, MN) and Grace (Buffalo, MN); Douglas (Juanita) Rodger (Tipton, IA) and their children Mandi (Iowa City, IA) and her daughter Summer, Anthony (Katie-Lee)Rodger (Broken Arrow, OK) and their children Cora and Caden; Crystal (Trevor) Johnson (Iowa City, IA) and their children Max, Elizabeth and Owen; Rose’s siblings Thomas Nilles of Fort Dodge, IA, Gerald (Kathryn) Nilles of Medford, Oregon and Bill (Mary Jean) Nilles and Leon (Sherry) Nilles of Sheldon and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her husband William, parents John and Eleanor Nilles, two sisters Barbara Law and Patricia Sangl, brother Robert Nilles, son-in-law Patrick Redinius, sisters-in-law Mary Claire Nilles and Mary Ann Nilles, and brother-in-law Don Sangl.
