Services for Samuel H. Vernon, age 68, of Sheldon who passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his residence in Sheldon.

Family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Sam Vernon

Samuel Hayden Vernon, 68, of Sheldon, IA passed away in his home October 25^th .  He was born on January 13^th, 1954 to parents Bob and Marion Vernon in Cedar Rapids, IA.   Sam graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA., going on to receive a BA in business from Utah State University.  

Sam was a beloved brother, cherished uncle and devoted friend. He enjoyed watching football, especially his beloved Hawkeyes, walking, tennis, and poker.  Sam also enjoyed spending time with local friends, at times helping with their home projects.    Always thoughtful and overly generous, Sam let people know how important they were in his life and put others' needs before his own.   He will be missed dearly and remembered always for his corny sense of humor, always ready with a joke to tell, and his deep love of family.

He is survived by siblings John Vernon (Nancy) of Marco Island, FL, Jim Vernon (Patt)of Denver, CO, Susan Brigman of Bedford, TX, Bo Vernon (Terri) of Solon, IA, Bill Vernon (Monica) of Cedar Rapids, IA and his Irish twin Sarah Koines (Art) of Kensington, MD.  Sam is also survived by a multitude of amazing nieces and nephews who he saw infrequently but loved hearing about.  A family service celebrating Sam’s life will be held next summer.
