Steven Gordon Thacker, 57, departed this life on the evening of May 10, 2016. Steve passed away in Belton, Texas as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Steve was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 24, 1958 to Marlys and Jerry Thacker. His family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1968. Steve was multitalented; he grew up in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed anything outdoors, hiking, riding bicycles, swimming and he loved to play music. He especially enjoyed playing the drums and guitar. He was married to Melissa Oler and was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sarah and Amy.
Steve had a strong faith and loved the Lord. He leaned on scripture daily to guide him. He always worked very hard to provide for his family. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. Steve had a heart of gold and was well known for his compassion for others, and was loved by many. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children, Sarah and her husband Matthew Tomczyk, Amy and her husband Nathan Drake, and his three grandchildren, Natalee, Emalee, and Shane. He is also survived by his mother Marlys Thacker, his father and stepmother Jerrold and Nancy Thacker, his siblings Mark Thacker, Dan Thacker, and Michelle and her husband Mike Calabro, nieces, nephews, and many friends who loved him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church on 13929 Moffat Rd. in Temple, Texas. Steve will be laid to rest with his grandparents near the family farms in Sheldon, Iowa where he spent many happy summers in his youth, and where he dreamed of one day residing.
