Susan Agda Hoeppner was born October 14, 1948, to parents, Paul J. and Juanita (Begg) Hoeppner. She was baptized in the Christian faith and was a member of the Methodist church. She attended Bethel Lutheran Church of Sutherland for many years and enjoyed several programs and activities for her nieces. Susan graduated Salutatorian of Sutherland High School in 1966 where she served as Secretary-Treasurer, Honor Society Secretary, President of Quill and Scroll, Editor of the Duke Annual, and received the Bar Association Award given to a graduating senior. Susan was a member of 4-H and also a leader of the Liberty Lassies, winning the Tupperware contest that allowed the club to charter a bus, and travel to Minneapolis to attend the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.
In her younger years, the family moved many times, finally settling permanently in 1960 on “The Farm” an acreage west of Sutherland, Iowa. In 1984, Susan moved to her home in Sutherland with her mother, Juanita, where she lived out the remainder of her life. She owned and operated Hoeppner Insurance Agency and was a member of Northwest Consultants for 50 years. Susan always enjoyed playing cards, including: card clubs, and with Grandma Nita, Debbie, and all her girls. Susan was an avid book reader and was a member of Book Club with her sister and nieces (which of course always included hors d’oeuvres, snacks, candies, and her all-time favorites, Cherry Coke and Hershey chocolate with almonds).
During her nieces’ school years, Susan always looked forward to being their “teach” and helping them with their schoolwork; especially editing papers and math tutoring, math was her favorite subject. Her three nieces Jill, Cas, and Noey were the apples of her eye. Susan always enjoyed and looked forward to spending time with family and friends; and chatting with her friend Mary Jo. Susan was a loving and kind daughter, sister, aunt, and great aunt. She passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, reaching the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 6 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Debbie and her husband, Terry Kruse of Sutherland; three nieces, Jillian and her husband Heath, their daughter, Mirabella Mews of Sutherland; Cassandra Kruse of Sutherland; Noelle and Evan and their son, Kruse Magnussen of Sutherland; and a host of other friends.
Susan will always be remembered for the love of her favorite shows: Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, and Law and Order SVU; staying up late watching movies, the irony of her love of owls as she was a hardcore night owl herself, putting puzzles together, playing phone solitaire, listening to love songs and 60s music, her favorite color of anything purple, and her never ending kindness and patience with all things and people, which she was always quoted as saying, “Patience is a Virtue.” Hot fudge sundaes were always one of her favorites; and when it came time to choose which homemade dessert to try at a family get together, in classic Suz fashion, her Susan-ism was always, “Well Dear, I’ll Have a Little of Each.”
P.S. Suz, we tried our hardest to make sure that everything was grammatically correct, just as you would have done.
Love you! Debbie, Jill, Cas, and Noey
