This gentle, loving, caring, generous, and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his wife and best friend of 70 years, Alma (Van Ommeran) and his children: Terry (Tammie), Sandy (Curtis), and Michael (Sherri). Family was the center of Thelmar’s life. He was a proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to Tyler (Kari), Todd, Tara (Lance), Marshal, and Abby Jean. He cherished his role of great grandfather to Parker, Onika, and Braxton Boone.
Born in Newkirk, Thelmar spent his life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful, and loving man. He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath. He was a long-standing member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon where his volunteer positions were long and varied.
Thelmar served his community and wider world in a variety of ways; selling kettle corn for the Kiwanis, collecting paper and cardboard for Love, Inc., and countless trips to Haiti, just to name a few. He had a long career of over 30 years in the car service business with Koopman Motors and D & H Motors as service manager.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward, and Henrietta (Vander Zwaag), his brothers, Bernard, Erwin, Eugene and sister, Audrey Faye. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Thelmar will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, caring heart, generous spirit, his ability to fix anything, his love of fishing and he loved a good jigsaw puzzle and card game.
Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heave watching over us.
