He was baptized on November 2, 1952, and later confirmed on March 19, 1967, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa, where he was a lifetime member. He attended school in Gaza, Calumet, and graduated from the Paullina High School with the class of 1970. He furthered his education at NITC in Sheldon, Iowa, and graduated with a welding diploma.
On December 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to Peggy Kruse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. For their entire married life the couple lived in Paullina, Iowa. Tom served as an EMT on the Paullina Ambulance Team, and was a member of the Paullina Fire Department for 25 years.
Tom had a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a member of several Harley chapters. He enjoyed the freedom of riding his Harley down wide-open roads. Tom and Peggy attended the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for 20 years and enjoyed riding in the Black Hills area of South Dakota. His next passion was country dancing. Many dance lessons were taken by him and Peggy so they could scoot around the dance floor with all their dancing buddies. Other interests included movies, concerts, woodworking, puzzles, eating out, and spending time with family and friends. Additionally, the couple enjoyed vacationing with family and friends.
