Services for Walter “Frank” Hammond, age 94, of Matlock who passed away at his home in Matlock on Tuesday May 6, 2025. His graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Friday May 9, 2025 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Matlock. Rev. Kevin Gingerich will officiate.
Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

WALTER F. “FRANK” HAMMOND
Walter Frank Hammond the son of Willie and Fannie Hammond was born May 31, 1930, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. He received his education and graduated from Livingston High School in Livington, Kentucky. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country both in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His total service to his country was 20 years being discharged on February 28, 1971. On August 8, 1972, he was united in marriage to Lavonne Oldenkamp in Jellico, Kentucky. After their marriage the couple moved to Matlock, Iowa, where they purchased their family home. The couple remained in Matlock for many years. Lavonne preceded him in death on August 8, 2024. Frank remained in the family home and passed away on Tuesday May 6, 2025, reaching the age of 94 years 11 months and 5 days.
Frank enjoyed both fishing and gardening.
He is survived by one daughter and her husband Joani and Tim Williams of Damascus, Virginia also grandchildren, great grandchildren three sisters all in Kentucky and many other relatives and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Lavonne, son Lynn, parents and several brothers and sisters.
