JOAN E. HANSEN

Joan Elizabeth Hansen (Heffernan) daughter of Charles and Melitta Heffernan was born on May 9, 1938 in Clark SD. She attended Doland SD. grade school. On September 7, 1958 she was united in marriage to Lester O. Hansen in Redfield SD. After the wedding Joan joined Lester in traveling with the United States Air Force. In 1968 they moved to Boyden, IA for Lesters work. Joan worked for the Boyden Hull School district, where she was a janitor and cook for 30 years. Joan passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, Iowa reaching the age of 77 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Joan enjoyed her family, cards, quilting, camping, sewing, and time with her friends. Her grandchildren were her life. In 2004 she went to Pleasant Acres in Hull where they cared and loved her for 12 years.
Left to cherish Joans memory is her son, Leslie Hansen of Alton and his wife Barb, 5 grandchildren (Breanne, Karissa, Rebecca, Ben, and Mitchell, 3 great grandchildren. Daughter, Bonnie Diekevers and husband Mike of Boyden, two grandchildren, Todd and Jenna. Also her sister, Phyllis and brother, Patrick of Idaho and sister in-law, Raleen Heffernan of Redfield, South Dakota. Their best friends, Betty and Gary Hadden and other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Mick, Steve, and Ruth.
